Nicole Holt Artist

In creating my art, I am inspired by my love for my cultures, my love for horses, and for the wildlife of North America. I am an equine science major at Montana State University, so much of my work focuses on the connection between horse and rider. Luckily, as an Indigenous artist, I have a lot to work with regarding this connection. In my work, it is my goal to show the cultures of my tribes, as well as my appreciation for the tribes whose land I live on in Montana, while displaying a love for horses.

Along with horses, I am also passionate about scientific illustration. I currently work with the Larsson Lab through the College of Nursing at MSU, where I am creating scientific illustrations to be displayed in 48 IHS clinics across the state. I find illustration to be an effective way to convey information in a way that can be understood by a broader audience. Through this work, it is my goal to use my skills to help other Indigenous people improve their understanding of procedures. My work does not erase the medical mistreatment done to our people, but I am hoping to prevent it in the future with educational illustrations.
